Report: Mike Brown, Ty Corbin front-runners to land Warriors' top assistant job

The Golden State Warriors will be faced with filling a significant hole in their coaching staff this offseason for a second straight year. Such are the drawbacks of success for one of the greatest teams of all time.

After losing top assistant Alvin Gentry to a head coaching gig with the New Orleans Pelicans last year, the Warriors will watch this year's top assistant, Luke Walton, leave to become the Los Angeles Lakers' head coach. Golden State's already mulling Walton's replacement, and reportedly have two candidates, in particular, on its radar.

Mike Brown and Ty Corbin are the front-runners to win the Warriors' top assistant-coaching job, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Brown most recently served as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013-14, having returned there for a second go-around after spending a brief sojourn at the helm of the Lakers. He was fired after just one season in his second Cleveland stint (though he's still being paid out by the Cavs for the five-year, $20-million deal they inked him to in the summer of 2013), and lasted just 71 games with the Lakers. On the bright side, he boasts a career 347-216 record and the 2008-09 Coach of the Year award.

Corbin coached the Sacramento Kings on an interim basis last season after Mike Malone was fired. He was reportedly assured he'd keep the job through the end of the campaign, but was replaced by George Karl (who's since been fired himself) after 28 dispiriting games (7-21). He previously served as head coach of the Utah Jazz, compiling a 112-146 record across parts of four seasons.
