Jamal Murray: 'I'm the best player in the draft'

One thing is clear about Jamal Murray's draft candidacy: He doesn't lack for confidence.

Murray, projected by DraftExpress as the No. 8 pick, worked out Wednesday for the Boston Celtics. Afterward, the Canadian shooting guard made it abundantly clear why teams should pick him.

"I believe I'm the best player in the draft," Murray said.

Although reports suggest Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram are a cut above the rest, Murray has distinguished himself as firmly belonging in the second tier following an impressive freshman campaign at Kentucky.

The 6-foot-5 swingman put up 20 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 40.8 percent from deep on 7.7 threes per game. He profiles as the prototypical shooting guard and has wowed teams in workouts.

Murray also has an impressive international resume that includes some showstopping performances for Team Canada at the 2015 Pan Am Games.

The jumpshot will be Murray's calling card at the next level. He set a Celtics draft workout record by making 79 of 100 attempts from the 3-point line. Given the importance of shooting in the modern game, Murray should garner plenty of interest - perhaps even from his hometown Toronto Raptors who hold the No. 9 pick.
