Michigan's Harbaugh asks Hank Aaron to be honorary captain
Jim Harbaugh shared a moment with baseball legend Hank Aaron last week at a satellite camp, but the meeting may not be the only time the two cross paths.
The Michigan head coach is hoping "Hammerin' Hank" will be an honorary captain for a game this fall. Aaron's granddaughter, Emily Haydel, is an undergrad at Michigan and works for the football program in the recruiting department.
"It is pretty cool to see," Haydel told Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press. "It’ll be cool to see what they do in the future, too. They talked about a coin flip, an honorary captain. So I’m excited to see."
Aaron is one of baseball's most revered players, hitting a whopping 755 home runs, good enough for second on the all-time list.
Harbaugh's made a point of staying in the news and doing anything he can to attract attention to the Wolverines' program. That included a Signing of the Stars event for National Signing Day, where he brought celebrities together to increase national exposure for the program.
"It’s like there’s no limits to anything that’s going on," Haydel said. "Signing of the Stars was above and beyond anything. These satellite camps, obviously everyone else is opposed to it. But it’s like Harbaugh said, ‘We’re doing things people never even thought of.’"
Having Aaron as an honorary captain would certainly fit the bill.
