Report: Mourinho eyes Griezmann, Gameiro for United strikeforce
Jose Mourinho is striving to improve the strikeforce he's inherited at Manchester United, apparently identifying Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro as ideal candidates for an at-times faltering frontline last term.
Both ply their trade in Spain - the former with Atletico Madrid and the latter with Sevilla - and scored a collective 38 goals in La Liga last season, while United's top-six league scorers mustered just 37 strikes between them under Louis van Gaal.
ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney understands that Griezmann tops Mourinho's attacking wishlist due to his pace and versatility, but his move could be dependent on whether Atleti manager Diego Simeone, under whom the French forward has thrived, leaves this summer.
Simeone has proven a popular character at the Vicente Calderon Stadium since his 2011 appointment, but a lack of investment from the board could see the Argentinian look elsewhere - perhaps Paris Saint-Germain.
Should Griezmann opt to stay in the Spanish capital, Gameiro is also being sighted as a potential buy. The 29-year-old moved to Sevilla in 2013 and particularly impressed in the Europa League last season, when the Andalusians collected their third consecutive title in the competition.
Mourinho's natural striking options at Old Trafford are Anthony Martial, captain Wayne Rooney, and teenage hotshot Marcus Rashford.
