Serge Aurier is set to appear in a French court in September due to his role in an alleged assault on a police officer.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender, who denies the charges against him, subsequently issued a complaint alleging police brutality.

Aurier is scheduled to appear before a judge on Sept. 28, according to the BBC.

On Tuesday, the French champions released a statement that neither condemned or pardoned the player for any wrongdoing. PSG added that Aurier is innocent until proven guilty, and that any action from the club will be decided after a judge's ruling.

The incident is said to have taken place outside of a nightclub early Monday, when Aurier allegedly insulted a police officer before assaulting him.

The 23-year-old is being held in police custody, after Paris authorities made the decision Tuesday to extend his detention by 24 hours.
