Daily Fantasy Dose: Cain Could Have a Rocky Outing in Colorado

Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Friday, May 27:

Stacks of the Day

  • Colorado Rockies (vs. Giants): How could you not stack the Rockies at home against San Francisco SP Matt Cain? It's almost too easy. After a slow start, Carlos Gonzalez has gone 8-for-16, while Nolan Arenado, on the other hand, has gone 1-for-16 through his last four. But with their proven home run power and Coors Field, DFS players have to buy here.

3-player stack: DJ LeMahieu, Arenado, Gonzalez
5-player stack: Charlie Blackmon, LeMaheiu, Arenado, Gonzalez, Trevor Story

  • Seattle Mariners (vs. Twins): The Mariners have cranked a league-high 23 homers against lefties this season. A matchup against rookie LHP Pat Dean should perk the interest of Seattle power hitters Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, and Nelson Cruz. With Leonys Martin unlikely to play, numerous bargain plays comprise the remaining parts of Seattle's lineup.

3-player stack: Cano, Seager, Cruz
5-player stack: Dae Ho Lee, Seth Smith, Cano, Seager, Cruz

  • St. Louis Cardinals (at Nationals): This stack should be reserved for tournament play as going against Max Scherzer seems to produce both strikeouts and home run opportunities. But with every Cardinal seeing a drop in price, the team with 65 home runs has increased value against Scherezer, and the league-high 14 bombs he has allowed.

3-player stack: Jeremy Hazelbaker, Aledmys Diaz, Stephen Piscotty
5-player stack: Hazelbaker, Diaz, Piscotty, Matt Adams, Brandon Moss

Bargain Plays

  • C Bobby Wilson, Rangers (vs. Pirates): Wilson is likely to start as Texas' catcher Friday against LHP Jonathon Niese. While the 33-year-old catcher hits only .230 against lefties for his career, he has gone 6-8 against southpaws in his past two games with three RBIs. As a team, the Rangers have hit .291 against lefties this season.
  • SP Zach Davies, Brewers (vs. Reds): Davies has only 70 major league innings to his name, so DFS players will likely be relying upon a poor Cincinnati performance here. Luckily, the Reds have lost 15 of their last 17 while slashing an awful .213/.271/.388 for the month of May. A quality start and a win would return great value on his cheap salary.
  • OF Cole Gillespie, Marlins (at Braves): Giancarlo Stanton has missed the past two games with soreness and is listed as day-to-day entering Friday's contest. Gillespie, Stanton's fill-in, has made the most of the slugger's absence going 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs. Monitor the Miami lineup to ensure Gillespie gets a full slate of at-bats.

Contrarian Options

  • 1B Jose Abreu, White Sox (vs. Royals): Abreu's .258 batting average and six homers have been a disappointment this season. However, the White Sox first baseman has three-hit games in his past two outings and eight hits in his last five. DFS players can expect further contact as Abreu has hit .358 in 17 at-bats against Kansas City SP Danny Duffy.
  • SP Jacob deGrom, Mets (vs. Dodgers): Concerns about deGrom have been growing as some poor starts have diminished his value. However, the lanky right-hander has been solid at home his whole career sporting a 1.94 ERA, .208 BAA, and K/9 of 9.81. With Los Angeles hitting .235 in May, Friday represents a time to gamble on deGrom's repressed salary.
  • SS Aledmys Diaz, Cardinals (at Nationals): Diaz has been one of St. Louis' best hitters this year with seven dingers and 25 RBIs. Friday's matchup against Scherzer, however, has deflated his price tag and should do the same to his ownership. But considering Scherzer's served up nine jacks in his past four starts, Diaz is an intriguing power option.
