Friday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Friday, May 27 (all stats exclude Thursday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Salvador Perez (KC) | vs. CWS | 9 |
| Matt Wieters (BAL) | at CLE | 8 |
| Welington Castillo (ARI) | vs. SD | 8 |
The reigning World Series MVP continued his scorching hot streak with two hits Wednesday night and topped off his most recent three-game series going an astounding 9-for-12 with two extra base hits, four runs scored and one homer. Perez is far and away the best play Friday night.
Wieters has been phenomenal through May, with an incredible 1.012 OPS, three homers and four extra base hits. With the Orioles ranking seventh as a team in terms of hitting RHPs, it bodes well for Wieters and company that their opponent is Indians RHP Trevor Bauer, who has lasted seven innings just once.
With Padres LHP Christian Friedrich the probable starter, Castillo figures to slot back into the lineup after a day off. Though Friedrich has pitched well in his two spot starts, the Diamondbacks are one of baseball's hottest hitting teams and Castillo will have plenty of RBI opportunities batting fifth.

Mid-Tier Targets
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Buster Posey (SF) | at COL | 7 |
| Yan Gomes (CLE) | vs. BAL | 7 |
| Wilson Ramos (WAS) | vs. STL | 7 |
| Christian Vazquez (BOS) | at TOR | 7 |
| Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) | vs. CIN | 7 |
| Stephen Vogt (OAK) | vs. DET | 7 |
| J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | at ATL | 7 |
Posey has been victimized by the well-known Coors Field price spike for Friday night, which results in his mid-tier ranking. His high-floor is tough to pass up, however, with the two top options much cheaper and providing more consistency at the dish, he's the next best option.
The Nationals' bats have cooled off since the start of the season, specifically power-hitter Bryce Harper, who is hitting below The Mendoza Line in May. While Ramos is establishing himself as more of a contact hitter than slugger, his .333 average is likely to dip as the season continues. But for now, he's a safe play in all formats.

| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Russell Martin (TOR) | vs. BOS | 6 |
| Brian McCann (NYY) | at TB | 6 |
| Francisco Cervelli (PIT) | at TEX | 6 |
| Derek Norris (SD) | at ARI | 6 |
| Chris Herrmann (ARI) | vs. SD | 6 |
| Jason Castro (HOU) | at LAA | 6 |
Finally, Martin threw the monkey off his back Wednesday and crushed two homers against the Yankees. His two dingers could be a sign of things to come. With the lack of options at catcher, his upside alone is worth a flier.
Herrmann is likely to sit with the aforementioned southpaw Friedrich toeing the rubber for San Diego. He's been hot against RHPs in 2016, hitting .311 but when a southpaw takes the mound, he isn't even hitting his weight; with one hit in nine trips to the plate.

| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Tony Wolters (COL) | vs. SF | 5 |
| Miguel Montero (CHC) | vs. PHI | 5 |
| Kevin Plawecki (NYM) | vs. LAD | 5 |
| Tucker Barnhart (CIN) | at MIL | 5 |
| Blake Swihart (BOS) | at TOR | 5 |
| Ryan Hanigan (BOS) | at TOR | 5 |
| Chris Iannetta (SEA) | vs. MIN | 5 |
| Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) | at OAK | 5 |
With a plus matchup against the always generous RHP Matt Cain, Wolters and his cheap price point are worth a flier in tournaments only.
Swihart and Hanigan have split time manning the backstop for the Red Sox, with the latter having much more success in the batters box. It looks as though Vazquez will get the nod, having started six of the last six contests, but either of the two aforementioned catchers are viable buy-low options.

Nothing to See Here
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| James McCann (DET) | at OAK | 4 |
| Yasmani Grandal (LAD) | at NYM | 3 |
| A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | vs. MIA | 3 |
| Carlos Ruiz (PHI) | at CHC | 3 |
| Dioner Navarro (CWS) | at KC | 3 |
| Bobby Wilson (TEX) | vs. PIT | 3 |
| A.J. Ellis (LAD) | at NYM | 3 |
McCann is hitting just .152 and has just one home run in 66 at-bats.
Both Grandal and Ellis haven't provided much offense for the Dodgers and hit near the bottom of the order. Both should be faded against the Mets.
