Daily Fantasy Dose: Mariners Offense Should be in Full Swing in Cincinnati

Denny Medley / USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Here's a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Sunday's 15-game slate:

Stacks of the Day

  • Seattle Mariners (at Cincinnati): Right-hander Alfredo Simon will have a tough time navigating through a lineup filled with left-handed hitters. Seattle has a team OBP of .327 against righties this season, good for fourth-best in the American League. The AL West-leading Mariners have won four of their last five, scoring 29 runs in those four victories.

3-player stack: 2B Robinson Cano, 3B Kyle Seager and OF Leonys Martin.
5-player stack: Cano, Seager, Martin, OF Nelson Cruz and 1B Adam Lind.

  • Baltimore Orioles (at LA Angels): Veteran right-hander Jered Weaver is having trouble remaining effective with a fastball that sits in the low eighties. He has a 5.76 ERA on the season and has allowed six homers in his last three starts. Baltimore loves the long ball, leading the bigs with 62 round-trippers. They sit second among AL teams in OPS versus righties.

3-player stack: OF Adam Jones, C Matt Wieters and 2B Jonathan Schoop.
5-player stack: Jones, Wieters, Schoop, 3B/SS Manny Machado and 1B Chris Davis.

  • Washington Nationals (at Miami): No team in baseball has a higher slugging percentage and OPS versus left-handed pitching than the Washington Nationals. Young southpaw Adam Conley has been solid this season, but he has allowed seven earned runs in 7 2/3 innings against the Nats this season.

3-player stack: 3B Anthony Rendon, C Wilson Ramos and 2B Daniel Murphy.
5-player stack: Rendon, Ramos, Murphy, OF Bryce Harper and 1B Ryan Zimmerman.

Bargain Plays

  • OF Paulo Orlando, Royals (at White Sox): The former Brazillian track-star has found a nice role with the Royals, providing speed and defense off the bench, while starting in RF in place of Jarrod Dyson against left-handed starters. Orlando is hitting .450 against southpaws this season and is very easy on the pocketbook.
  • OF Danny Santana, Twins (vs. Toronto): Speaking of speed, Santana provides plenty of it. In his current series against the Blue Jays, Santana is 5-for-11 with one double, one triple, two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases. The switch-hitter is better from the left-side and will face right-handed ground ball specialist Marcus Stroman.
  • 1B Logan Morrison, Rays (at Detroit): Morrison started the season with just two hits in his first 41 at-bats. Since then, LoMo has a nice .377 OBP, and has been very productive over his last few games. Opposing right-hander Jordan Zimmermann has come down to earth after a great start to the season, allowing 13 earned runs in his last three outings.

Contrarian Options

  • SP Danny Salazar, Indians (at Boston): Salazar will likely be faded by most DFSers as he takes on the white-hot bats of the Boston Red Sox. Boston leads the AL in runs by 55, among other major offensive categories. Don't discount Salazar, who has yet to allow more than five hits and three runs in a start this season. His 11 K/9 rate offers plenty of upside.
  • 2B/OF Ben Zobrist, Cubs (at San Francisco): Zobrist has been a great addition to the Cubs with a .443 OBP this season, but he will have low-ownership on Sunday as the Cubbies square off against lefty Madison Bumgarner on Sunday Night Baseball. Although, the switch-hitting Zobrist has fared much better as a right-handed hitter in his career.
  • OF Bryce Harper, Nationals (at Miami): DFSers won't want to invest a good chunk of salary into a lefty-lefty matchup, so expect Harper to have low-ownership levels on Sunday. However, he actually has a higher batting average and slugging percentage against southpaws this season. Bam-Bam has hit seven homers in 38 career games at Marlins Park.
