Jason Heyward made the catch of the year, but it came at a cost.
The Chicago Cubs right fielder robbed San Francisco Giants outfielder Denard Span of extra bases in AT&T Park's "Triples Alley" with an unreal diving catch near the 421-foot mark, but awkwardly slammed into the wall as he caught the ball, and immediately screamed out in pain.
With teammates looking on, the Cubs training staff eventually got Heyward to his feet and helped him off the field. He was replaced in the lineup by Tommy La Stella, who took over at third base, while Kris Bryant moved from the hot corner to right field.
The Cubs announced that the 26-year-old is being evaluated for an injury to his right torso and/or abdominal region.
