Monday's Outfielder Value Rankings
Here are theScore's outfielder value rankings for Monday, May 16 (all stats exclude Sunday's games):

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Ryan Rua (TEX) | at OAK | 10 |
Ian Desmond (TEX) | at OAK | 10 |
Starling Marte (PIT) | vs. ATL | 9 |
Michael Saunders (TOR) | vs. TB | 9 |
Mike Trout (LAA) | at LAD | 8 |
Kole Calhoun (LAA) | at LAD | 8 |
Andrew McCutchen (PIT) | vs. ATL | 8 |
Nomar Mazara (TEX) | at OAK | 8 |
The Rangers' outfield is in a great position to beat up on left-handed A's rookie Sean Manaea, who has been nuked for 16 earned runs in three starts. Rua has batted eighth in four straight games but moves up to sixth against lefties because of his .409/.435/.545 slash line against LHPs this season.
While Rua's price makes him a good fit in all formats, Desmond and Mazara should both find success hitting second and third. Their higher price point, especially in the case of Desmond, makes them better suited for cash games. There's a clear opportunity for a Texas-sized stack on Monday.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Gregory Polanco (PIT) | vs. ATL | 7 |
Jackie Bradley Jr. (BOS) | at KC | 7 |
Lorenzo Cain (KC) | vs. BOS | 7 |
Jose Bautista (TOR) | vs. TB | 7 |
Odubel Herrera (PHI) | vs. MIA | 7 |
Steven Souza Jr. (TB) | at TOR | 7 |
Brandon Guyer (TB) | at TOR | 7 |
Brandon Drury (ARI) | vs. NYY | 6 |
Mookie Betts (BOS) | at KC | 6 |
Christian Yelich (MIA) | at PHI | 6 |
Jacoby Ellsbury (NYY) | at ARI | 6 |
Billy Burns (OAK) | vs. TEX | 6 |
Adam Duvall (CIN) | at CLE | 5 |
Yasmany Tomas (ARI) | vs. NYY | 5 |
Alex Gordon (KC) | vs. BOS | 5 |
Jay Bruce (CIN) | at CLE | 5 |
Steven Moya (DET) | vs. MIN | 5 |
Joc Pederson (LAD) | vs. LAA | 4 |
Coco Crisp (OAK) | vs. TEX | 4 |
Kevin Pillar (TOR) | vs. TB | 4 |
Jeff Francoeur (ATL) | at PIT | 4 |
Ender Inciarte (ATL) | at PIT | 4 |
Pederson is almost prohibitively expensive when considering his boom-or-bust approach at the plate. Other youngsters at the same price tier include Polanco and Bradley Jr., both of which offer a prettier outlook.
Oakland has batted Crisp lead-off in five their past six games, including Sunday with a lefty on the mound. It seems more likely that Burns, who has better career numbers against LHPs, could fill the one-slot against Derek Holland. Depending on who manager Bob Melvin tabs for the pole position, that man becomes the safer cash-game play.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Giancarlo Stanton (MIA) | at PHI | 3 |
Miguel Sano (MIN) | at DET | 3 |
Yasiel Puig (LAD) | vs. LAA | 3 |
J.D. Martinez (DET) | vs. MIN | 3 |
Darin Ruf (PHI) | vs. MIA | 3 |
Khris Davis (OAK) | vs. TEX | 2 |
Brett Gardner (NYY) | at ARI | 2 |
Justin Upton (DET) | vs. MIN | 1 |
Corey Dickerson (TB) | at TOR | 1 |
Carlos Beltran (NYY) | at ARI | 1 |
Mallex Smith (ATL) | at PIT | 1 |
While Stanton already has 10 homers and has improved his walk-rate to 14.7 percent, his line drive rate sits at 13.8 percent, below the MLB average of 20.6 and his career rate of 18.6 percent. As a result, his batting average has fallen to .182 over his last 10 games. He has the potential to be an expensive bust on Monday.
Ruf has hit .295 against LHPs over his five-year career but is only hitting .238 against southpaws in 2016. He's not living up to his billing as a lefty-killer, so leave the platooner off your roster until he regains his mojo.
