Schalke announced Saturday ahead of a trip to Hoffenheim that manager Andre Breitenreiter will not return to the Gelsenkirchen club next season.
The club didn't provide a reason for Breitenreiter's departure, though the manager - in his first season at the helm of Die Knappen - leaves on the heels of sporting director Horst Heldt's resignation.

Christian Heidel will take over for Heldt after Saturday's final Bundesliga fixture under a four-year contract that expires June 30, 2020.
"This seamless transition has been mutually prepared for in several meetings over the last few months. The supervisory board have agreed to the procedure as well," Schalke's chairman of the supervisory board, Clemes Tonnies, told the club's website.
Schalke sits seventh in the German top flight with one match to play and Europa League automatic qualification up for grabs.
