Tim Lincecum is returning to California, but it reportedly won't be as a member of the San Francisco Giants.

The free-agent right-hander is closing in on a deal with the Los Angeles Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, citing league sources.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan says the terms have not yet been finalized, but the expectation is it's a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old would need at least four-to-six weeks to join the Angels rotation, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

Lincecum would provide reinforcements to a staff in Los Angeles that has been ravaged by injuries to Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney, C.J. Wilson, and Tyler Skaggs.

"The Freak" told John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle that he was interested in a return to the Giants and appreciated everything they did to help him recently, including the use of their facilities for training and his showcase, but did not see a fit with their organization, who envisioned him as a reliever.

Lincecum, a two-time Cy Young winner and four-time All-Star, impressed at his showcase earlier in May with 90 to 91-mph heat and had his secondary pitches working.

He's the owner of a 108-83 record with a 3.61 ERA while striking out 9.3 hitters per nine innings during his nine-year career in the MLB.
