Leicester captain Morgan: 'Nobody believed we could do it'

Nobody thought Leicester City could win the Premier League. Even as the matches ticked away and the Foxes refused to relinquish top spot, there was doubt among the football world that the Midlands club could really, actually pull this off.

The pressure would prove too much, they said. The players, almost entirely devoid of any experience in such a race, would crack.

Fast-forward to Monday, and Leicester didn't crack. Everyone else, including the final title challenger, Tottenham, did; Spurs' draw at Chelsea clinched the title for the rank outsiders, who came into the season as 5000-1 underdogs.

And now Wes Morgan and company can revel in their ability to overcome the odds and leave the doubters in stunned silence.

"It's the best feeling of my career and I couldn't be prouder that it's as part of this team. Everyone's worked so hard for this, nobody believed we could do it, but here we are, Premier League champions and deservedly so," Morgan said.

"I've never known a spirit like the one between these boys, we're like brothers. People saw it last season when everyone expected us to be relegated, but we fought back to prove people wrong. This season's been a continuation of that. We've built on the momentum, but I don't think anyone believed it would come to this."

Leicester, who gathered at striker Jamie Vardy's home to watch Monday's contest - and ultimately celebrate the victory - will get to hoist the silverware in front of the home fans on Saturday after a match against Everton.

"Saturday can't come quickly enough," Morgan added. "I can't wait to get my hands on the trophy."
