Report: Steelers decline to extend Jarvis Jones

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declined to pick up the fifth-year contract option on linebacker Jarvis Jones, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The Steelers picked Jones 17th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The 26-year-old had his best season as a rookie in 2013, starting eight of 14 games played and racking up 40 tackles, one sack, and four pass deflections. He served as the Steelers' starting outside linebacker for 15 games in 2015, but only recorded 29 tackles, two sacks, and one interception.

Pittsburgh's 38-year-old linebacker, James Harrison, announced Monday that he plans to return for the 2016 season, and he could steal playing time from Jones if he continues to struggle.
