ESPN hires Ibanez in post-Schilling shuffle
ESPN signed 19-year MLB veteran Raul Ibanez to a multi-year agreement to serve as an analyst on "Baseball Tonight," the network announced Wednesday in a press release.
The 42-year-old will also appear on other company television programs, including the network's flagship "SportsCenter," and will make his debut on ESPN's "Wednesday Night Baseball."
The hiring is the latest in a series of moves since the company fired outspoken analyst Curt Schilling on April 20. With Dallas Braden reportedly ESPN's primary choice to take over Schilling's former role on "Monday Night Baseball," Ibanez is likely to step in for the shifting Braden on Wednesdays.
Ibanez last played in MLB with the Kansas City Royals in 2014. In February, he was hired by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a special assistant to president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
