In an otherwise forgettable match against Sunderland, there was at least one thing to smile about for Arsenal supporters as Jack Wilshere made his season debut in the second half of Sunday's goalless draw.

After missing almost a year of action because of a fractured leg, the English international come on as a second-half substitute to replace Mesut Ozil.

The 24-year-old appeared in three matches with Arsenal's Under-21 side before manager Arsene Wenger decided to include him on the team sheet.

Wilshere failed to make much of an impact after he was introduced into the match in the 84th minute, as Arsenal dropped two valuable points to the relegation-threatened side.

The draw leaves Arsenal in fourth place, just five points clear of Manchester United, while Sunderland climbs out of the drop zone thanks to its superior goal differential over Norwich City.
