Matt Barnes: Grizzlies are 'coming to a gunfight with some spoons'

The Memphis Grizzlies faded down the stretch of the regular season, thanks to a slew of destabilizing injuries.

But you could still rely on the Grizzlies putting up one hell of a fight - whether it was playing spoiler against the Chicago Bulls, upending the mighty Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers, nearly doing the same to the Toronto Raptors, or coming within a jump shot of derailing the Golden State Warriors' quest for 73 wins.

The playoffs so far have been a different story, with the Grizzlies completely capitulating in two yawn-inducing blowout losses to the San Antonio Spurs.

Matt Barnes perhaps described it best.

"We're coming to a gunfight with some spoons," he said, according to Geoff Calkins of the Commercial Appeal.

It isn't the losing that rankles for Barnes, but more so the lack of punch, which isn't how the team is used to operating.

"As long as we go down swinging, who cares what happens?" Barnes said. "I just want to go down swinging, and I don't think we're doing that."

The Grizzlies will return to Memphis for Game 3, so perhaps their home crowd can give them a lift. Barring that, head coach Dave Joerger says his team - which suffered losses of 50, 49, 37, and 30 points during the season - has learned how to bounce back after getting blown out.

"We've had good practice," Joerger said.
