Byron Scott 'absolutely' expects to return as head coach
Despite amassing just 38 wins over two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, Byron Scott isn't going anywhere.
Scott told reporters on Friday he expects to return for a third year after an abysmal 2015-16 campaign.
"Yeah, absolutely," Scott said of his return.
The 55-year-old has yet to speak with management, but he's not fretting about it.
"I don't need that," Scott said. "There's going to come a time where we're going to talk, I do understand that, and I do understand this business.
"As I told (the media) from day one, and it's still to this day, this is my dream job. This is my dream job and obviously you want the opportunity to turn it all around and you hope you get that. But I understand the business of basketball. It's all about wins and losses, and I understand that as well."
Under Scott, the Lakers have set franchise lows in wins for two seasons running, and having secured victories in just 41.2 percent of his games coached, Scott boasts the worst win percentage of any bench boss with more than 1,000 games under his belt.
But that can't all be laid at Scott's feet. He hasn't been given much to work with in terms of talent.
"I think Byron has done an excellent job under the circumstances that he's had to deal with the last two years," general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "This year in particular was a difficult year for a coach to wade his way through."
Scott has one year left on his contract.
