Talib calls out Osweiler for bristling at backup role

Brock Osweiler's departure from Denver didn't go as smoothly as he anticipated, and on Monday things got worse as Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib blasted his former teammate.

Osweiler signed a four-year, $72-million contract with the Houston Texans on the opening day of free agency, ostensibly becoming the team's starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Peyton Manning battled through a lingering foot injury during the 2015 campaign and Osweiler went 5-2 in his absence, including a signature overtime victory over the New England Patriots. However, the 26-year-old reportedly bristled at being sent to the bench upon Manning's return and didn't return phone calls from teammates ahead of free agency.

Talib wasn't pleased with Osweiler's demeanor, saying he should've known his role with the club.

"You're a backup quarterback, then that's your job title. And then when starter comes back, you back, backup again," Talib said on "Russillo and Kanell."

Manning retired after the Broncos captured Super Bowl 50 and Osweiler was groomed to become his replacement. However, Osweiler sought another opportunity in Houston and Mark Sanchez is slated to start for the Broncos as the roster is currently constructed.

The Broncos will host the Texans during the 2016 season and with bad blood brewing, the contest will be appointment viewing.
