Counterattack: Brandon Finnegan Looks to Curse the Cubs
Here are the top contrarian plays for Monday's 11-game slate:
SP Brandon Finnegan, Reds (at Cubs)
Despite striking out nine batters and allowing three hits and two earned runs in his season debut, Finnegan is one of the lowest-priced starting pitchers available Monday. Regardless of how little it costs to roster him, the ex-Royal isn't likely to be highly owned as he looks to spoil the Cubs' home opener.
The Cubs are 5-1 and have scored at least six runs in four of their six games. Known as a slow starter, Finnegan's counterpart Jon Lester allowed just four hits and one earned run in winning his season debut last week. In 2015, Lester had an April ERA of 6.23, and allowed at least three earned runs in all four of his starts. The Cubs have lost their last five Wrigley Field openers.
Even if Finnegan can't record a win, he can still return value through strikeouts. In parts of three seasons, he boasts a K/9 rate of 9.44. The Cubs have struck out 53 times, an average of almost nine per game.

2B/3B/OF Brock Holt, Red Sox (vs. Orioles)
Holt sat out Sunday with a foot injury, but is expected to be back in the lineup for Boston's home opener Monday. Perhaps it's a coincidence, but without the hot-hitting utilityman, the Red Sox failed to score at least six runs for the first time all season, falling 3-0 to the Blue Jays.
Batting .412 with two home runs and eight RBI, the low-priced Holt has been an offensive spark plug this season, registering at least one hit and either scoring or driving in a run in each of his four games. It's admittedly a small sample size, but Holt has two hits in seven at-bats against expected Orioles starter Yovani Gallardo.

C Matt Wieters, Orioles (at Red Sox)
Speaking of spoiling Opening Day starts, Wieters seems the most likely candidate to put a damper on David Price's Fenway Park debut. Thanks to Price's extensive AL East experience, Wieters has 15 hits in 44 at-bats against the ex-Ray and Blue Jay. Seven of those hits went for extra bases, including one home run.
Wieters is mid-priced as far as DFS catchers are concerned, and has a .250 average and four RBI in four games so far this season.
