NCAA bans satellite camps

Score another victory for the SEC.

The NCAA issued a ban Friday on satellite camps, ruling that coaches can only conduct camps at their own school facilities. The change is effective immediately.

Now coaches like Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer won't be able to hold clinics in different parts of the country in an effort to attract the attention of recruits from all over the nation. Meyer and Harbaugh had camps lined up in Georgia this summer.

Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips said the Big Ten was the only Power 5 conference to vote against banning the camps.

It's a huge help to SEC coaches, considering their conference already doesn't allow for such camps. The new rule should limit the scope of Big Ten coaches' access to players in SEC states.
