Thursday's Second Baseman Value Rankings
Here are the second baseman value highlights for Thursday, April 7:
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Anthony Rendon (WAS) | vs. MIA | 10 |
Starlin Castro (NYY) | vs. HOU | 9 |
Jose Altuve (HOU) | at NYY | 9 |
Dee Gordon (MIA) | at WAS | 8 |
Rendon has more value at 2B than 3B, and he's even better with a left-handed pitcher on the mound. Rendon has hit between .294 and .313 against lefties in each of the past three seasons.
DFSers looking to go cheap at 2B should consider the red-hot Castro, who has five hits in eight at-bats and seven RBI to start his Yankees career.
Gordon is the most expensive 2B on the slate, though it's not obvious why his outlook should be any different than the likes of Altuve. In any case, both make for high-end cash-game options because of their elite contact rates and multi-steal potential.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Ben Zobrist (CHC) | at ARI | 7 |
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | vs. MIA | 6 |
Joe Panik (SF) | vs. LAD | 6 |
Addison Russell (CHC) | at ARI | 5 |
Rougned Odor (TEX) | at LAA | 4 |
Murphy homered in his first game as a National. Hitting behind Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman will lead to plenty of RBI opportunities, but don't expect tournament-level power against lefty Adam Conley; Murphy hit just one of his 14 homers last season against left-handed pitching.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jason Kipnis (CLE) | vs. BOS | 3 |
Brian Dozier (MIN) | at BAL | 3 |
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) | at CLE | 3 |
Chase Utley (LAD) | at SF | 2 |
Kipnis and Dozier are at the same price bracket as Altuve and Gordon but aren't nearly as stable from game-to-game.
Utley is 0-for his career against Jake Peavy in 14 at-bats. That might be enough to bump him from lead-off duties for the night, making him a very low-end cash-game play.
