Thursday's Third Baseman Value Rankings
Here are the third baseman value highlights for Thursday, April 7:
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Danny Valencia (OAK) | vs. CWS | 10 |
Manny Machado (BAL) | vs. MIN | 9 |
Kris Bryant (CHC) | at ARI | 9 |
Adrian Beltre (TEX) | at LAA | 8 |
Valencia was basically a platoon bat that could hit lefties but couldn't stay in the lineup against right-handed pitching. Until last season, that is; Valencia hit .285 with 13 home runs in just 214 at-bats against RHPs in 2015. Now he's hitting in the meat of the order. He's a great cheap tournament option Thursday against volatile SP Mat Latos.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Todd Frazier (CWS) | at OAK | 7 |
Miguel Sano (MIN) | at BAL | 7 |
Matt Duffy (SF) | vs. LAD | 7 |
Justin Turner (LAD) | at SF | 6 |
Jake Lamb (ARI) | vs. CHC | 6 |
Martin Prado (MIA) | at WAS | 5 |
Chase Headley (NYY) | vs. HOU | 5 |
Brett Lawrie (CWS) | at OAK | 5 |
Tyler White (HOU) | at NYY | 4 |
Yunel Escobar (LAA) | vs. TEX | 4 |
Frazier, Sano and White are stronger tournament plays due to their long-ball potential. Duffy and Turner aren't as flashy, but they're more affordable than the bigger names on the slate; lower prices mean lower returns needed to return cash-game value, which is made easier by having spots in the middle of the batting order.
Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Trevor Plouffe (MIN) | at BAL | 3 |
Plouffe is just 2-for-13 with eight strikeouts for his career against Orioles' SP Ubaldo Jimenez. Of the well-known third basemen on this slate, the Twins' man at the hot-corner is the only player with a decisive disadvantage.
