Notre Dame's hopes for a rebound campaign in 2017 are off to a rough start.
Fighting Irish running back C.J. Holmes suffered a separated shoulder during spring practice, head coach Brian Kelly told Tyler James of the South Bend Tribune.
Kelly also noted the injury probably ends Holmes' spring, and the freshman will undergo an MRI to see if there was any further damage.
Holmes is a four-star recruit and the No. 2 player from the state of Connecticut in the 2017 class.
