Report: Purdue hiring Les Miles would mean Steve Sarkisian comes too

As the Purdue coaching search presses on, Les Miles continues to be the name in the forefront of those discussions, but the former LSU coach comes with a stipulation.

A source told Travis Haney of 247Sports that if Purdue hires Miles, he intends to bring Alabama offensive analysts Steve Sarkisian and Mike Locksley with him.

Sarkisian would serve as offensive coordinator for the 63-year-old, while Locksley would coordinate the run-game for Miles' new team.

Both men have previous head coaching experience, with Sarkisian serving as the frontman at Washington for five seasons before moving to USC in 2015, and Locksley running the New Mexico program from 2009-11. Sarkisian was fired by the Trojans due to multiple incidents with alcohol, and has since caught on with the Crimson Tide.

Many people assumed Alabama's hiring of Sarkisian is to provide insurance should current offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin leave for a head coaching position. Sarkisian served as the offensive coordinator at USC from 2005-08, leading one of the nation's best offenses to 37.5 points per game in his final season.

Despite the fact he's the most successful coach in LSU history, Miles was fired after a 2-2 start this season. Most people would point to his inability to adapt his offense as the main reason for his dismissal, and Miles has repeatedly said he's willing to do so at his next stop.
