Fisher calls for uniform scheduling among Power 5 conferences

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher made sure to get one final word in before the ACC athletic directors vote on the conference's scheduling format Friday.

"I'd like to play for a championship where everyone has the same rules," Fisher said Thursday evening, according to ESPN's Jared Shanker.

"You don't think we need a commissioner and a set of rules to make things even? We're the only sport in America that doesn't have the same set of rules for everybody that plays."

Currently, ACC teams play eight conference games a year, and beginning in 2017 they'll be mandated to play at least one non-conference opponent from a Power 5 conference.

On Friday, the athletic directors could vote to add a ninth conference game, or require teams play two Power-5 non-conference opponents each season.

Both strategies would be aimed at raising the team's strength of schedules, which would theoretically help each season's eventual ACC champion reach the four-team college football playoff.

Other conferences abide by their own sets of rules, however.

As a matter of fact, the Big 12 only recently voted to reinstall a conference championship game, effective for the 2017 season. Fisher said it's beyond time for the ACC and every other Power 5 conference to get on the same page and come to a scheduling consensus.

"Everybody goes to their own neighborhood and makes their own little rules," he said. "I'm for uniform everything across the board no matter what it is: eight-and-2, nine-and-one, 38-and-38. Why can't we uniformly play the same number of games, play the same conference championship, play the same number of Power 5s?

"... It's called common sense."
