NCAA Game Summary - Northwestern at Nebraska

Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - The Nebraska Cornhuskers' last-second prayer was answered in the form of a 49-yard touchdown pass from Ron Kellogg III to Jordan Westerkamp as time expired, giving them an improbable 27-24 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats in Big Ten Conference action at Memorial Stadium.

Kellogg III finished 7-of-13 for 104 yards and a touchdown while splitting snaps with Tommy Armstrong (15-of-29, 173 yards, TD, three INTs) for Nebraska (6-2, 3-1 Big Ten). Westerkamp caught four passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Ameer Abdullah (127 yards) and Armstrong (69 yards, TD) both had effective rushing days.

For Northwestern (4-5, 0-5), Treyvon Green led the way with 149 yards and three touchdowns. Neither Trevor Siemian (4-of-13, 36 yards, INT) nor Kain Colter (4-of-8, 45 yards) were effective under center, although Colter did rush for 86 yards.

Nebraska scored on the game's opening possession. An eight-play, 76-yard drive was capped off by a five-yard rushing touchdown by Armstrong.

Northwestern answered later in the quarter with a pair of Green touchdown runs, a one-yarder with 6:56 left in the opening frame and a four-yarder at the 2:35 mark.

Green's big day continued early in the second quarter, as he rushed in his third touchdown of the afternoon, this time from 10 yards out. The Cornhuskers put an end to the Wildcats' run with 6:37 left in the second quarter when Armstrong tossed a three-yard touchdown to Quincy Enunwa to finish off an 11- play, 77-yard drive.

Nebraska received a huge momentum swing midway through the quarter thanks to its defense, as Avery Moss picked off a Siemian pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to tie the game up at 21-21.

The Northwestern defense returned the favor late in the fourth quarter by intercepting Armstrong with 2:25 left in the game. The takeaway set up the go- ahead 21-yard field goal by Jeff Budzien.

The Cornhuskers' last possession started with 1:14 left. They managed to cling to life following a conversion on 4th-and-15, and a few plays later they were left with just four second remaining on their own 49-yard line. Kellogg III heaved up a Hail Mary on the final play of the game, which was tipped in the end zone and found the grasp of Westerkamp to give Nebraska the win.

Nebraska outgained Northwestern on the afternoon, 472-326.
