For FIU (1-11, 1-7), Jake Metlock was just 7-of-21 passing for 56 yards and was sacked seven times before being pulled for E.J. Hilliard (4-of-6, 33 yards). Jonnu Smith had five receptions for 44 yards. The Panthers, who end their season riding a seven-game losing streak, gained just 170 total yards on the afternoon.

FAU got the scoring started at the 9:28 mark of the first quarter when Johnson hooked up with Nexon Dorvilus on an 11-yard touchdown. FIU struck back on the ensuing kickoff with a 50-yard return by T.J. Lowder, but it had to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Austin Taylor to make it 7-3.

The Owls extended their lead late in the first quarter when Johnson hooked up with William Dukes on a 59-yard touchdown strike, and after a scoreless second quarter, FAU went into halftime with a 14-3 lead.

After a Panthers' punt pinned FAU on its own 2-yard line, it orchestrated a 10-play, 98-yard yard drive, ending in a 23-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Alex Deleon to further extend its lead.

FIU chipped away at its deficit early in the fourth with a 43-yard field goal by Taylor, but that would be the final score of the game. FAU was able to run out the final 5:06 of the game without giving the ball back.

Martin Wright shined for the FAU defense with 4.5 sacks, while Cory Henry (2.5 sacks) was also disruptive in the backfield.
