NCAA Game Summary - Utah State at UNLV

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Bruce Natson scored his second touchdown of the contest late in the fourth quarter to lift the Utah State Aggies to a 28-24 win over the UNLV Rebels in a Mountain West Conference battle at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Natson tallied 71 yards on nine carries for Utah State (6-4, 5-1 MWC) as it became bowl eligible with its third consecutive victory. Darrell Garretson completed 16-of-28 pass attempts for 288 yards while Joey DeMartino rushed 19 times for 75 yards. Travis Reynolds made seven catches for 129 yards and Travis Van Leeuwen reeled in four receptions for 112 yards.

Tim Cornett tallied 115 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries for UNLV (5-5, 3-3) as it lost for the second straight week. Caleb Herring finished 17-of-39 for 252 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Devante Davis made three catches for 84 yards and Marcus Sullivan tallied 83 yards and a score on five receptions.

UNLV struck first as Herring completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Sullivan for the only score of the opening period.

The Aggies got on the board just after the start of the second quarter as Garretson found Shaan Johnson on a five-yard scoring pass that evened the score at seven.

After Sullivan returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards to set UNLV up with great starting field position for their next drive, the Rebels added three points with a 29-yard field goal by Nolan Kohorst.

Utah State responded as Bruce Natson rushed 13 yards for a touchdown to give the visitors a 14-10 lead with 11:16 remaining in the first half.

UNLV jumped back in front at the 7:25 mark of the second quarter as Cornett scored on a four-yard touchdown run. Kohorst's successful extra point try gave the Rebels a 17-14 lead, which they managed to maintain through the rest of the first half.

The Aggies went back ahead with just over three minutes left in the third period as Joey Martino concluded a seven-play, 88-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown rush. Nick Diaz chipped in his extra point try to give the visitors a 21-17 advantage.

The back-and-forth trend continued in the final frame as the Rebels took a 24-21 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation as Herring completed a four-yard touchdown pass to Maika Mataele.

Utah State produced an 11-play, 82-yard drive that Natson concluded with a 12- yard touchdown run to give the visitors a lasting, 28-24, lead. UNLV managed to make its way into the Aggies' red zone on its ensuing drive, but Herring had his next four pass attempts fall incomplete after a 10-yard pass to Sullivan gave the Rebels a first down at Utah State's 16-yard line.

The Aggies racked up 445 yards of total offense while UNLV managed to produce 402 total yards. Both sides compiled 24 first downs.
