NCAA Game Summary - Kent State at Akron

Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by a 151-yard rushing effort by Jawon Chisholm, the Akron Zips held off the Kent State Golden Flashes, 16-7, in Mid- American Conference action at InfoCision Stadium.

Chisholm's performance came on the heels of a season-high 166 yards against Ball State on Oct. 26. Kyle Pohl completed just 8-of-19 passes for 98 yards for Akron (2-8, 2-4 MAC), while the team's only touchdown came on a 33-yard pass by wide receiver Zach D'Orazio.

For Kent State (2-8, 1-5), Colin Reardon was 15-of-31 passing for 138 yards with three interceptions. Trayion Durham rushed for 82 yards on 18 carries and scored the Golden Flashes' only touchdown.

The Zips got things started on the first drive of the game, marching 78 yards in just 1:08. The possession was capped off with a trick play, with wide D'Orazio tossing a 33-yard touchdown pass to L.T. Smith.

Action remained quiet until midway through the second quarter. After Kent State's defense forced a Pohl fumbled, the Golden Flashes made Akron pay for its mistake when Durham tied the game on a three-yard rushing score.

Akron regained the advantage just before halftime, as Robert Stein kicked through a 28-yard field goal with 29 seconds left in the first half.

The Zips orchestrated a lengthy 13-play, 73-yard drive late in the third quarter and into the fourth, but they stalled in the red zone and had to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Stein, giving it a 13-7 lead. Stein added another short field goal (29 yards) with 4:25 left in the game to give Akron a two-score advantage.

Reardon threw a pair of interceptions in the game's final five minutes to end any hope of a Kent State comeback.

Kent State's five turnovers turned out to be the difference in the game. Akron committed just one giveaway.
