Roy Williams sounds off on media following win over Syracuse
For a man who just booked a trip to the NCAA championship game, Roy Williams didn't exactly exude happiness during his postgame press conference.
Following North Carolina's 16-point win over Syracuse in the Final Four Saturday, the veteran coach took the podium and used the press conference to take shots at the media.
"I'm a helluva lot smarter about basketball than you guys are," Williams calmly answered the opening question. "What do you guys do after basketball is over? You cover baseball. What do you guys do after baseball is over? You cover football. I don't take any breaks."
Williams went on to say this year has been the worst for media and fans criticism of his decisions, despite him having the best knowledge of the team's psyche.
"I see our guys in the locker room every single day," Williams said. "You know how many practices we have had? 98 practices. How many of you guys have been to our practices? I would never criticize somebody about something that they know a heckuva lot more about."
The two-time national champion wasn't done there, firing one last barb at the room of reporters.
"When I retire in 2035, I want to be an announcer one year, cuz I want to be the only announcer not to criticize coaches."
If Williams is this fiery after a major win, there's no telling what he will be like if the Tar Heels lose to Villanova on Monday.
