West Virginia's Jaysean Paige sprained ankle against Texas
West Virginia's leading scorer Jaysean Paige suffered a sprained ankle in Tuesday's loss to Texas.
Paige exited the game early in the first half after inadvertently stepping on a teammate's foot, and the Mountaineers said he was questionable to return. The senior guard did check back into the game at one point in the second half, but was removed again and sat out the remainder of the night.
If Paige is forced to miss extended time, West Virginia will surely miss his 14 points per game on the offensive end of the floor. The 10th-ranked Mountaineers next play Saturday against No. 3 Oklahoma in a highly anticipated affair.
"If there’s any way possible, Jaysean will play," coach Bob Huggins told reporters after Tuesday's game.
West Virginia also played Tuesday without third-leading scorer Daxter Miles Jr., who pulled his hamstring against TCU on Feb. 13. Miles' status for the Oklahoma game is up in the air as well.
The loss to Texas marked the second time this season that the Mountaineers have fallen to the Longhorns.
