Louisiana Tech bans basketball player from transferring to 55 schools

Louisiana Tech guard Xavian Stapleton has chosen to leave the program after a strong freshman campaign.

The problem is, the Bulldogs are blocking him from transferring to 55 Division I schools, according to a document obtained by Courtney Cronin of The Clarion-Ledger.

Louisiana Tech granted Stapleton his release on June 17, but there's a caveat. The letter Stapleton received confirming his release included the following paragraph:

"We are granting Mr. Stapleton a release to attend any institution not a member of C-USA, not on Louisiana Tech's 2015-16 schedule, not located in the states of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas and not the University of Florida."

Florida pried away Bulldogs head coach Mike White this offseason. He recruited Stapleton to Louisiana Tech.

"It's just ludicrous," Yulonda Davis, Stapleton's mother, said. "It's customary for them to have limitations for a release but those limitations are just not fair."
