4-star PF Jaren Jackson commits to Michigan State

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Highly-touted power forward Jaren Jackson committed to Tom Izzo and Michigan State on Thursday, giving the Spartans their first pledge of the 2017 cycle.

"I have done all my homework on each school," Jackson told Paul Biancardi of ESPN. "Coach Izzo has established a culture and an attitude of winning and I want to be part of that. He does a great job at developing his talent, too."

The 6-foot-10, 225-pounder is ranked as the fifth-best power forward in the country, and comes in 26th overall on the ESPN 100.

It's another win on the recruiting scene for the legendary Izzo, who delivered the nation's third-ranked class in 2016. Johnson chose the Spartans over other power programs such as Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame, and Purdue.

Jackson comes from a strong basketball background, as his father Jaren Sr. won an NBA title in 1999 for the San Antonio Spurs, while his mother is the director of operations for the WNBPA.
