Oklahoma State F Tyrek Coger dies after team workout
Incoming Oklahoma State basketball player Tyrek Coger died Thursday after collapsing during a team workout.
The junior college transfer from Raleigh, N.C., was 22.
According to Tim Ahrens of the Stillwater News Press, an emergency call was placed at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a man who'd collapsed as a result of heat exhaustion on the stairs of Boone Pickens Stadium.
Coger was transported to Stillwater Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m., the school confirmed.
The 6-foot-8 forward recently transferred to Oklahoma State from Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.
"Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such a passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy," coach Brad Underwood said in an official statement. "Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through."
Many expressed their condolences on social media following the news of Coger's death, including teammates, former coaches, and other programs.
Still feels so unreal
