NCAA Game Summary - UMBC at Albany

Albany, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Peter Hooley knocked down 5-of-6 shots from beyond the arc en route to a career-high 30 points as the fourth-seeded Albany Great Danes completed an 86-56 rout of the UMBC Retrievers in the quarterfinals of the American East Conference Tournament at SEFCU Arena.

Sam Rowley hit on 6-of-7 field goal attempts to chip in 15 points for Albany (15-15), which will advance to take on the No. 1 seed Vermont on Sunday. John Puk and Anders Haas contributed 11 points each, while D.J. Evans netted 10 points. Luke Devlin led the Great Danes on the glass with seven boards.

For the Retrievers (9-21), Rodney Elliot and Quentin Jones finished with 18 points apiece. Will Darley added eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Great Danes knocked down 57.7 percent of their field goal attempts and converted all four of their shots at the free-throw line in the opening period. UMBC went into the intermission facing a 38-17 deficit after it was limited to 25 percent efficiency from the floor, including a 2-of-11 clip from 3-point range in the first half.

Albany extended its advantage after the break by connecting on 7-of-12 tries from beyond the arc. The Retrivers heated up to sink 56 percent of their shots from the floor in the second stanza, but it was too little too late.

The Great Danes outscored UMBC, 40-18, in the paint and enjoyed a 36-28 edge in the rebounding battle.
