NCAA Game Summary - Hawaii at Cal State Northridge

Northridge, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Maxwell logged 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Cal State Northridge Matadors, as they held off the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 79-78, in Big West Conference action at the Matadome.

Maxwell made 10-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line for CSUN (9-7, 1-0 Big West), which has won back-to-back games. Aaron Parks came off the bench to score 19, while Josh Green netted 15.

For Hawaii (11-4, 0-1), both Christian Standhardinger (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Isaac Fotu (16 points, 11 rebounds) registered double-doubles. Garrett Nevels put up 19 points for the home team, while Brandon Spearman added 15 points.

CSUN narrowly outshot Hawaii from the field in the first half, 43.5 percent to 41.9 percent, as it went into intermission with a 40-39 lead.

The Matadors used a 13-2 run midway through the second half to extend its lead to 13 points with nine minutes remaining, but the Rainbow Warriors climbed back to make it just a one-point game with 1:54 left on a Keith Shamburger 3- pointer. Neither team would score anther point, however, and Standhardinger missed the potential game-winner jumper with two seconds left, as CSUN escaped with the victory.

CSUN was an outstanding 28-of-31 from the foul line on the evening.
