Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Sampson Carter shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc en route to a game-high 20 points, as the Massachusetts Minutemen dismissed the George Washington Colonials, 67-61, in an Atlantic 10 Conference tussle at the Smith Center.

Derrick Gordon chipped in with 11 points to help the Minutemen (20-5, 7-4 A-10) rebound from Wednesday's home loss to George Mason and notch their 20th win of the season.

Patricio Garino led the way with 20 points for the Colonials (19-6, 7-4), who were dealt their first loss at home in 13 tries this season. Isaiah Armwood tallied 16 points and eight rebounds, Maurice Creek scored 11 points, and Joe McDonald (four points) finished with a game-high 10 boards and seven assists in the loss.

The first half featured four ties and four lead changes, although UMass eventually claimed a 32-29 halftime lead after holding GW to 39.3-percent shooting from the floor in the opening frame.

Both teams made 11 field goals in the second stanza, but the Colonials needed 32 attempts (.344) to reach that total while UMass needed only 22 (.500). The Minutemen led by as many as 13 before GW rallied to cut the deficit to two in the final 30 seconds.

UMass allowed the Colonials to hang around thanks to some poor free-throw shooting, as it converted just 11-of-21 attempts (.462) for the game.
