NCAA Game Summary - Utah at Stanford

Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwight Powell made the second of two free throws with 36 seconds remaining in regulation in order to lift the Stanford Cardinal to a thrilling 61-60 win over the Utah Runnin' Utes in the Pac-12 regular-season finale for both programs at Maples Pavilion.

Powell finished with just seven points for the Cardinal (19-11, 10-8 Pac-12) and was charged with four turnovers in the meeting, but still the team was able to snap a three-game slide with the conference tournament coming up this week. Chasson Randle was responsible for a game-high 22 points, followed by Stefan Nastic with 14 off the bench as he converted all six of his field goal attempts. Josh Huestis tacked on 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds as well.

The Runnin' Utes (20-10, 9-9) were paced by Brandon Taylor with his 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting behind the 3-point line, but still the squad saw a three- game win streak come to an end. Jeremy Olsen and Delon Wright pitched in with 12 points apiece, the latter clearing eight rebounds and handing out six assists, followed by Dallin Bachynski with 10 points.

Utah connected on an impressive 55.6 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 45.2 percent for the hosts, yet the Utes never held a lead in the period. In fact, the visitors fell behind by double figures just over six minutes into the meeting, eventually heading into the break trailing by eight, 33-25.

In the second half the Utes again shot the ball well from the floor (53.8 percent) and connected on 5-of-10 behind the 3-point line, compared to only 2- of-6 for Stanford. Not only did the Utes close the gap, they actually took a one-point lead at 58-57 on a dunk by Bachynski, but in the end Powell and the Cardinal pulled out the victory.

Stanford hurt itself with just 9-of-18 shooting at the free-throw line, but made up for it by forcing 17 turnovers and trading in those Utah miscues for 18 points.
