NCAA Game Summary - Virginia Tech at Maryland

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Layman scored 13 points as the Maryland Terrapins coasted to a 64-47 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at the Comcast Center.

Dez Wells chimed in with 11 points for Maryland (16-14, 8-9 ACC), while Evan Smotrycz, Seth Allen and Nick Faust scored eight points apiece.

Joey van Zegeren and Jarell Eddie netted 14 points each for the Hokies (9-20, 2-15). Trevor Thompson pulled down 10 boards and van Zegeren had nine rebounds as Virginia Tech endured its fifth loss in a row.

The visitors shot 39.3 percent from the floor and scored 10 second chance points in the first half. Despite knocking down 5-of-10 attempts from 3-point range in the opening period, the Terrapins went into the intermission trailing, 29-28.

Maryland scored on the first possession of the second stanza to take the lead and stayed in front the rest of the way. The Terrapins led by as many as 20 points. Virginia Tech was limited to just 22.7 percent efficiency from the floor and attempted 10 less field goals after the break.

The Terrapins' bench outscored Virginia Tech's reserves, 25-5. The Hokies finished with a 40-30 advantage in total rebounds.
