NCAA Game Summary - Northwestern at Nebraska

Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 17 points and 10 rebounds from Shavon Shields, the Nebraska Cornhuskers downed the Northwestern Wildcats, 54-47, in a Big Ten Conference bout at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

For the Cornhuskers (17-11, 9-7 Big Ten), Walter Pitchford and Terran Petteway each chipped in with 10 points.

Losers of six-straight, the Wildcats (12-17, 5-11) were led by Alex Olah with a game-high 20 points to go along with four blocks, while Drew Crawford scored 11 and Tre Demps finished with 10 points in the loss.

Both teams struggled from the field to open the game. Nebraska shot just 37 percent, including 3-of-11 from beyond the arc. Northwestern was even worse, hitting on just 33.3 percent and 4-of-14 from deep, as the Cornhuskers took a 26-22 lead into intermission.

After the break, little changed for either club, as they both again shot under 40 percent from the field. Nebraska had the better half, making 36 percent of its shots and missing all but one of its six 3-point tries in the period. Northwestern shot a woeful 33.3 percent after halftime, though it had better success from long-range, connecting on 3-of-13 from 3-point distance. The Wildcats were able to get to within one, 31-30, with under 12 minutes to play, but the Cornhuskers responded with a 13-4 run to take control and they held on down the stretch for the victory.

Nebraska had the edge on points in the paint, 20-12. The Cornhuskers also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats, 40-29.
