NCAA Game Summary - BYU at San Diego

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws scored 25 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor as the BYU Cougars outlasted the San Diego Toreros, 78-70, in a West Coast Conference tilt at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Matt Carlino netted 14 points and dished out six assists off the bench for BYU (21-10, 13-5 WCC). Anson Winder chipped in 11 points, and Kyle Collinsworth added 10 with five rebounds. Nate Austin pulled down a team-high 10 boards in the win, which was the fourth in a row for the Cougars. BYU ends its regular season a game and a half behind Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference standings.

Christopher Anderson netted 22 points, dished out six assists and recorded four steals for San Diego (16-15, 7-11), while Johnny Dee contributed 12 points. Jito Kok notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Toreros, who ended a three-game winning streak.

BYU was on fire in the first half, hitting 65.4 percent of its field goal attempts, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. The Cougars took a 41-33 lead into the intermission after San Diego connected on just 33.3 percent of its shots in the frame.

The Cougars cooled way down in the second half, netting 38.5 percent of their tries, but did hit 13-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Toreros improved to 56 percent shooting in the period, and hit 7-of-15 from deep. San Diego held a 58-56 lead with 7:44 left to play in the game, but BYU regained the advantage and piled on for the win.

BYU had the advantage in second chance points, 15-8, and won the battle in bench points, 23-12.
