NCAA Game Summary - Georgetown at Marquette

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Davante Gardner scored a game-high 26 points as the Marquette Golden Eagles held on for a 75-73 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas in a Big East battle at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Jake Thomas drained six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points for Marquette (17-11, 9-6 Big East), which has won five of its last six.

Markel Starks tallied 24 points and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 19 for Georgetown (16-12, 7-9), which has lost three of its last four. Jabril Trawick chipped in 16 points in the losing effort.

It was Georgetown that led, 40-37, at halftime. The Hoyas were an efficient 52 percent from the floor, including a 5-of-10 showing from beyond the arc, in the first 20 minutes. Marquette did its best to keep up, shooting 46.4 percent from the floor in the frame.

Both teams slowed in the second half. The Hoyas had only seven field goals in the period, while the Golden Eagles shot at a 41.7 percent clip. Marquette got out to a fast start in the frame, ripping off an 11-1 run to take the lead, which it would never relinquish.

Led by Gardner, Marquette had a stunning 40-3 advantage in bench scoring.
