NCAA Game Summary - Maryland at Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dez Wells tallied 19 points as the Maryland Terrapins took down the Virginia Tech Hokies 80-60 in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle at Cassell Coliseum.

Seth Allen contributed 16 points and seven assists for the Terrapins (13-9, 5-4 ACC), who have won in back-to-back games. Jake Layman and Nick Faust both added 10 points in the victory.

Ben Emelogu knocked down a game-high 21 points the Hokies (8-13, 1-8), who are mired in an eight-game losing streak. He was the only double-digit scorer for his team.

The Terrapins started strong, shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the first half. At the other end, the Hokies shot 41.9 percent, including just 1- of-9 from beyond the arc, and trailed 43-35 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hokies struggled at 30.4 percent from the floor. The Terps, on the other hand, shot a confident 46.4 percent to close out the game, leading by a staggering 25 points with just under three minutes to play.

Maryland outscored its opponent 36-24 in the paint and got 30 points from bench players.
