NCAA Game Summary - Vanderbilt at Alabama

Tuscaloosa, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Releford scored 16 points as the Alabama Crimson Tide held on for a 68-63 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores in the SEC opener for each team at Coleman Coliseum.

Shannon Hale and Retin Obasohan each added 15 points for Alabama (7-7, 1-0 SEc), which has won back-to-back games. Levi Randolph chipped in 11 points.

Rod Odom had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds for Vanderbilt (8-5, 0-1), which had won four of its previous five. Damian Jones contributed 16 points and Kyle Fuller tacked on 15.

Alabama rolled into halftime, leading 36-26. The Crimson Tide shot 41.4 percent from the floor and had twice as many field goals (12) as Vanderbilt (six) in the period. The Commodores did hit 12-of-14 from the free-throw line during the frame.

After halftime Vanderbilt shot at a 51.9 percent rate but it was not enough to overcome Alabama, which improved to 56.5 percent shooting itself.

Alabama enjoyed a 17-8 scoring advantage off turnovers. Vanderbilt was the better team on the boards (32-25).
