Naughton, Gorski score 20 each, Wyoming downs Western 88-49

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) Jordan Naughton had 20 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs, to help Wyoming beat Division II Western State 88-49 in Friday night's opener under first-year coach Allen Edwards.

Alexander Aka Gorski scored a career-high 20 points, hitting 5 of 8 from long distance, and made four assists for Wyoming. The Cowboys shot 52.5 percent, including 14 of 34 3-pointers, and held the Mountaineers to 32 percent, just 6 of 21 behind the arc.

Naughton had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half to help Wyoming to a 49-23 lead and the Cowboys continued to pull away.

Edwards served five seasons as an assistant under former Wyoming coach Larry Shyatt.

Brady Subart scored 11 points off the bench for Western State and Collin Smith grabbed nine rebounds.
