Suns shut down Brandon Knight for remainder of season

Phoenix Suns guard Brandon Knight will miss the rest of the 2015-16 campaign with a sports hernia in his groin, AZ Central's Paul Coro reports.

Knight will seek a second opinion this week to determine if surgery is necessary.

The 24-year-old guard initially suffered the groin pull on Dec. 31, Coro relays. Knight played through it but re-aggravated the injury three weeks later, and was subsequently sidelined for nearly the next two months.

Knight managed to return in early March, but his shooting tailed off. He averaged 19.1 points and 4.8 assists in 10 games after his recovery, but shot just 36.7 percent from the field.

To make matters worse, Knight re-aggravated the injury for a second time on a dunk attempt last Saturday. He miss the Suns' following contest, before being shut down for the year.

Knight signed a five-year, $70-million deal with Phoenix last summer.
