Spurs' Parker: It's too early to compare Warriors to Jordan's Bulls

The 1995-96 Chicago Bulls are holding on to their single-season record of 72 victories by a thread, with the surging Golden State Warriors (62-6) on pace to break their benchmark with 14 regular-games remaining.

Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs have three more meetings against the reigning NBA champions, including Saturday's highly anticipated matchup at the AT&T Center - where the Warriors haven't won since 1997.

While matching and possibly exceeding the golden number of 72 would be quite the feather in Golden State's cap, Parker believes comparing them to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and company wouldn't be appropriate.

"I'll say they've been having an unbelievable season," Parker said Friday, according to the San Antonio Express News' Jeff McDonald. "Being in the league for 15 years, it's tough to try to get 70 wins, with all the back-to-backs and all the great teams you have in the league. So it's pretty impressive."

There's a big but, though.

"Compare them to the Bulls," Parker continued. "They won six (titles) in eight years. So you have to give a little bit of time to that (Warriors) team to see how well they're going to do over 10 years, the longevity. Like us, the Spurs, we won five titles since '99. That's how you judge teams."

Hoisting the Larry O'Brien trophy in consecutive years is no easy feat. In fact, despite having four rings with the franchise since being drafted 28th overall in 2001, the Spurs haven't won back-to-back titles.

In the Warriors case, becoming world champions again is the obvious end goal, and while taking sole possession of the single-season wins record is within striking distance, not walking away with the title when it's all said and done would significantly tarnish that feat.

Also, San Antonio would need to run the table to tie Chicago, while ending the year on a 12-2 run would make them just the second (or third, if Golden State gets their first) team ever to win 70 games.
