Mario Chalmers: Could have ruptured Achilles

The Grizzlies are fearful that Chalmers (foot) suffered a ruptured Achilles during Wednesday's game against the Celtics, Zach Lowe of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Official word on the extent of Chalmers' injury won't come down until the results of his MRI are revealed later Thursday, but all indications are that the point guard suffered a serious setback. After hurting his foot on a non-contact play, Chalmers said he heard a "pop" and needed to be wheeled to the locker room. If Chalmers is indeed ruled out for a significant amount of time, it would be yet another devastating loss for the Grizzlies, who played Wednesday without the services of Zach Randolph (knee), Mike Conley (knee), Chris Andersen (shoulder), Brandan Wright (knee), Marc Gasol (foot), and Jordan Adams (knee). Briante Weber, who just signed a 10-day contract with the team prior to Wednesday's game, could be forced to play heavy minutes as the Grizzlies' only healthy point guard Friday against the Pelicans.
