Raptors' Biyombo grabs franchise-record 25 rebounds in win over Pacers

Sam Sharpe / USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors gutted out an ugly, scrappy, 101-94 overtime win over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, and though the late-game offensive exploits of DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry (28 points apiece) may have helped the Raptors get over the finish line, without center Bismack Biyombo, they'd never have been within spitting distance.

Filling in as a starter for the injured Jonas Valanciunas, Biyombo took advantage of a game that featured small lineups and a ton of misses both ways, hauling in a franchise-record (and career-high) 25 rebounds.

To give a sense of just how thoroughly he dominated the glass, nobody else in the game had more than 10 rebounds. Biyombo grabbed nine at the offensive end alone.

Those nine offensive boards meant nine additional possessions for a Raptors offense that desperately needed them. Toronto shot just 36.4 percent from the field, a number that looks even uglier (32.9) if you take out Biyombo, who complemented his monstrous rebounding night with a season-high 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Add to that his usual stalwart rim protection (two blocks) and post defense, and Biyombo - who saw more floor time than he has in a game in nearly three years - was a game-high plus-16 in his 42 minutes.

In case there was any doubt about who got the game ball.
